GPS Tracker Used to Find Stolen Propertry
On 08/31/16 the Chesapeake Energy Company reported a large utility battery stolen from a work site in the Knoxville area. Thieves broke into a fenced area and then used what appeared to be a grinder to cut the hinges off a metal box holding the battery.
The battery, however, was also equipped with a GPS tracking device. That device was used to begin tracking the location of the battery which showed it to be in London. Our department requested the assistance of the London Police Department and the battery was able to be recovered.
This case is currently under investigation and more information will be released as it is made available.
