911 System Back to Normal
After 9-1-1 Systems went down this morning across several counties, the systems have been restored and back to normal operation. It is unclear at what caused the outage, according to AT&T Resolution Center, the outage occurred outside of their network and did not have an immediate determination as to the cause.
When an outage like this occurs, 9-1-1 calls are routed to another center that can still provide subscriber and location information, then relayed via phone or computer terminal to the Johnson County Dispatchers. This may cause a very short delay in getting the call out, but still provides the information that dispatchers need from the caller. Alma Police Department accepted the responsibility of answering those calls and relaying the information to us as they were getting it.
We would like to thank Alma PD dispatchers for their help and support, and would like to thank all the citizens for their patience while we resolved this issue. When you dial 9-1-1, you will now be speaking to a dispatcher at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
