Coal Hill Traffic Stop Results In Drug Arrest

A Coal Hill resident was arrested on felony drug charges on Wednesday, May 14 after a traffic stop by Patrolman Jason Richardson of the Coal Hill P.D. and Sgt. Tim Wages of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Joe Helms, age 64 was arrested after officers discovered over 2 ounces of methamphetamine in his vehicle behind the drivers seat. A Sheriff's Office K-9 team was dispatched to the scene and alerted further on the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle and suspect's residence turned up other drug paraphernalia. Helms was arrested on Driving On A Suspended License, No Proof Of Insurance, Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession Of A Controlled Substance With Intent To Deliver. The value of the methamphetamine is estimated to be $3500.00 Helms will appear before a Circuit Judge for a probable cause/bond hearing today.
