The Johnson County Detention Center has gotten relief from the backlog of state inmates as 32 have been transferred to the Arkansas Department of Corrections within the past 3 weeks. The Detention Center hit an all-time high recently with 89 inmates incarcerated over a weekend period, with over 40 waiting transfer to ADC. This transfer will help keep the daily rate between 35-45 which is a very manageable level. It will allow 309 inmates to do much-needed repair work on some areas of the detention center and should reduce the amount being spent on food and utilities as the budget year nears an end. Detention Center levels may rise after the first of the year, depending on sentences handed down in Circuit Court.
